Are the mystics and sages insane? Because they all tell variations on the same story, don't they? The story of awakening one morning and discovering you are one with the All, in a timeless and eternal and infinite fashion. Yes, maybe they are crazy, these divine fools. Maybe they are mumbling idiots in the face of the Abyss. Maybe they need a nice, understanding therapist. Yes, I'm sure that would help. But then, I wonder. Maybe the evolutionary sequence really is from matter to body to mind to soul to spirit, each transcending and including, each with a greater depth and greater consciousness and wider embrace. And in the highest reaches of evolution, maybe, just maybe, an individual's consciousness does indeed touch infinity—a total embrace of the entire Kosmos—a Kosmic consciousness that is Spirit awakened to its own true nature. It's at least plausible. And tell me: is that story, sung by mystics and sages the world over, any crazier than the scientific materialism story, which is that the entire sequence is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying absolutely nothing? Listen very carefully: just which of those two stories actually sounds totally insane?

Music Therapy

Music Therapy is rapidly growing science. Research has shown that it is not only effective in lifestyle improvement for patients, but can actually help in the healing process. For example if a patient has Cerebral Palsy ( a condition in which muscle movement becomes a-rhythmic) and is going through grueling physical therapy, studies have shown with a percussionist in the room the patient is more easily able to "find a rhythm" in their environment and therefore has a more effective therapy session by a measurable degree.

Cerebral Palsy is a non-progressive disorder, meaning the brain damage does not worsen, but secondary orthopedic difficulties are common. There is no known cure for CP. Medical intervention is limited to the treatment and prevention of complications possible from CP's consequences. We as musicians can help. Contact your local hospital to find out how.

Yoga - A Perfect Union

In the west yoga when people think of Yoga they only think of one aspect of Yoga - the yoga of physical postures and exercises.This just one small branch of an ancient scientific art for spiritual discovery. Yoga means to “yoke together” or unite.

Through yoga a seeker also realises God is nothing other than his own highest consciousness. There are no magic Yogi's - only highly evolved humans who are receptive to the Yogi in themselves : ()

The only way to evolve is to practice living with true awareness and Ahimsa.

One is not trying to reach for or attain anything through the practice of Yoga. Everything always is and always has been "in here" and not "out there". Rather than reaching for something new; one is digging for something very deep. A profound feeling of connectedness with everything in the Uni "one" Verse "song". As Einstein said, "The illusion that we are separate from each other is an illusion created by the bending of the fabric of space and time". We should note that in an infinite universe any and all points in that universe are the center. Therefore it follows that we are all always in the center of the universe. One must be careful to not fall into the trap of becoming attached to specific figure-head or leader of any spiritual movement. While leaders are useful and we should admire them equally - as well as nurture the leader in ourselves. J. Krishnamurty warned us of this pitfall, that is why he dissolved the Order of the Star, and stated that truth was pathless land which could only be attained one person at a time, by him or herself. There is no Magic pill or person, there is only truth. And that is, we are all one. A great Guru is simply holding a mirror up for people to see themselves in. Yoga is inseparable from true Music sadhana or practice.

Jnana Yoga.

Jnana yoga is the yoga of wisdom. On this path the seeker attempts to know the true nature of God through introspection and careful examination of reality. Jnana yoga is not just about intellectual wisdom; it is about understanding and experiencing the wisdom which cannot be contained by the mind.

Bhakti Yoga.

Bhakti yoga is the yoga of devotion. The aim of bhakti yoga is for the seeker to experience God, in whatever form he/she prefers, right in the human heart. The approach of bhakti yogi’s is through love, devotion and surrender. Bhakti yoga is about experiencing God as a living presence. MUSIC would fall in this category my friends. Music (or sound) is the Ultimate Reality according to the Vedas - Nada Brahma

Karma Yoga.

Karma Yoga is the path of selfless service. Karma yoga involves serving others with an attitude of detachment.

Raja Yoga

Raja Yoga is the yoga of meditation. By practising meditation and other spiritual disciplines an aspirant is able to reveal the true nature of the mind and reality.

Life is an Ocean We Fall In/When You Hold Me I Can Swim

Many people have asked me what I think of the year 2012 - the Mayan Calendar and many others consider this to be a pivotal year in human development. The only answer I have is, why does it matter if life is a circle anyway. Anyone who is even remotely interested in the subject of spiritual development needs to discard ANY and ALL dates from their minds because these dates have no real meaning. They are numbers assigned by humans for infinite moments we must bottle up into neat little packages for our own "sanity". Furthermore if we are to ever surrender to the Great Spirit we cannot be attached to things like dates for these are in the realm of the material world. And there is no way to enter the spiritual world if one is still attached to the material one. People may claim that a certain experience did not influence a decision or a moment. The truth of the matter is everything influences us - especially if we go out of our way to deny their influence. Sounds like a Koan huh?

Auburn University Raga 2008 Concert

These videos are from a concert on March 29th 2008 at Auburn University.

The group, Arrows of Agape (formerly Global Circus), consists of

Anand Vyas - Sitar, Vocals, Guitars, Violin

The concert was a great success due in large part to the wonderfully astute and appreciative audience.

The sound is coming from the speaker of a modest webcam, so please keep that in mind when listening - i.e. the quality is poor.

We hope the listener will forgive this, we were short on setup time so we could not record directly through the board.

The embedded page is the concert flyer and all videos can be played and paused as needed. The last one is some audience testimonials after the show.
