Today we will speaking of sitar hand technique. Specifically Left Hand Technique. We will later go into right hand as well but it will require more images and angles of shots. The major mistake I notice in many Sitar players that are learning or even have decent level of experience is that their thumb is "cramping" the back of the sitar fretboard. By "cramping" I mean flat and pressed down hard on the back of the fret board. This is wrong. The thumb should curve outwards as to facilitate sliding your hand up and down the sitar neck and it will make for much smoother meends. Here is short video describing this
